July is not exactly the ultimate time of the year to be afield as the heat can be at times unbearable. Texans are extremely lucky, how ever, to have the Gulf Coast as an outdoor playground.
Whether one spends time hunting for reds tailing in the shallows or locating birds dive bombing schools of mullet below which they hope will be the surf riders’ number one predator, speckled trout, Texas outdoorsmen are opportunistic as to how they spend their precious free time. Once off the water, they can be found negotiating the thorn scrub in pursuit of at least a part of the animal they pursue most throughout the winter and that is the antlers of whitetail deer.
For me, it is an annual event that I share with family and friends in the environment I enjoy most the brush country of South Texas.
