+ Regional Weather Picking the Right Day - Robert Sloan

Without a doubt February is one of the cold est months of the year and on many days heading out to fish is not the best option you’ll have. But on the other hand what’s a guy to do? Football is history so doing time in front of the television is boring, unless you just like watching something like the cooking channel or the shopping network.

Just because it’s February doesn’t mean you have to be held hostage by the weather. In fact, with the right timing you can tap into some pretty good fishing for reds and trout.

The problem with coastal fishing during February is timing. You don’t want be out on the bays when a cold front arrives. That’s a no-brainer. And it’s usually too windy the day after a front moves through. Plus, the first day or two after a front moves through we’ve got extremely low tides. I’ve seen it so low on some February days that entire flats are high and dry.
