New York hunters killed 1,358 black bears during the 2013 hunting season, the second-highest number on record, with a record 636 bears in the Southeastern bear hunting area and a near-record 342 bears (2nd highest take) from the Central-Western bear hunting area, according to the NY Department of Environmental Conservation.
