About the November 2016 Cover

An unnamed original watercolor by renowned Texas wildlife and sporting artist John Dearman is this month’s cover art. A huge whitetail buck is momentarily distracted from the doe he is courting and pauses to glimpse at the viewer. This is a scene every hunter dreams and many will experience in what should be an exceptional year for trophy whitetails across the Lone Star State.
The rut in Texas spans such a long period of time across our sprawling state. Some places like the coastal prairies will see the peak of the in full swing during the last week of October and as November begins. The Hill Country will see peak breeding activity occur around Thanksgiving while the South Texas brush country will occur about mid-December.
