Time is ticking down on the quail season in Texas. This year’s statewide quail season ends on February 26.
Renowned sporting dog and wildlife artist Lou Pasqua has captured a scene every quail hunters relishes in his quail and pointer study – this month’s cover art. With consecutive years of a great hatch of bobwhite quail, the recovery of this popular gamebird continues, plus the near term prospects look promising.
Pasqua has built his reputation and following painting upland bird scenes as well as pointing and retrieving dogs at work. A pointer solidly locked on point with then a pair of bobs bursting from cactus cover is a late season rush countless hunters will experience. Late in the hunting season bobwhite quail many times will hold a little tighter with just a few birds loosing their nerve to take flight rather than the big covey rise seen early in the year.
