About the February 2016 Cover

For over 31 years revered Pennsylvania wildlife and sporting artist Lou Pasqua has shared his passion for the outdoors, particularly bird dogs and upland bird hunting. The self-taught painter’s works have appeared on numerous nationally recognized magazine covers including Gray’s Sporting Journal, Sporting Classics, The Pointing Dog Journal, amongst others and provides the cover art for this month’s issue of TEXAS OUTDOORS JOURNAL.
Pasqua’s “A Prickly Situation” beautifully captures the explosion of bobwhite quail from a grassy prickle pear patch as the covey makes a break from its hiding place. Not only is a covey rise an adrenaline rush for the wingshooter, but Pasqua captures the muscular tautness of both the dog on point and its bracemate honoring the point at the moment the rise occurs. The pointers’ facial expressions seem to say, “my nose said y’all were there.”
