56th Annual Louisiana Fur & Wildlife Festival

The Southeast Tourism Society recently honored the Louisiana Fur & Wildlife Festival as a Top 20 Event for the first quarter of 2014.
The festival will be held Friday–Saturday, January 10-11, in Cameron with plenty of activities for festival goers, including parades, dances with authentic Cajun music, exhibits and a carnival, along with some rather unusual events such as trap setting contests, duck and goose calling, nutria and muskrat skinning, oyster shucking contests, skeet shooting, dog trials, and a gumbo cook-off. There is also an annual parade at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11.
The Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention and Visitors Bureau is a member of STS, an organization that promotes travel to and within the southeastern part of the United States. The bureau nominates all area fairs, festivals and events quarterly. The STS Top 20 Events marketing program highlights the “best of the best” from submitted entries. Events are selected from each of the following STS member states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
