+ Regional Weather Wader's Delight - Robert Sloan

Wade fishing along the Texas Gulf coast has been the go-to tactic for consistently catching more trout and reds on any given day. Granted, it’s not the easiest way to fish, but it’s definitely a way to relax, and it’s for sure the best way to go one on one with trout, reds and even flounder.

Once you learn how to gear up and actually catch fish, wading is more relaxing and fun than you might think. Then again there is the popular debate on whether it’s actually sane to get out of a perfectly comfortable and dry boat.

I grew up fishing at Port O’Connor which is where wade fishing is the way to go, so it was second nature to get out of the boat and hunt for fish the wet way. Back in my early years we would wear high top Converse tennis shoes, a pair of khaki pants, a T-shirt and a Styrofoam hat for lure storage. A stringer was knotted through a belt loop and we were good to go. That was about as basic as wade fishing could get. That’s prehistoric by today’s standards.
