Legendary Texas bass pro Tommy Martin of Hemphill can’t help but chuckle when he recalls the early to mid 1970s, when hydrilla first began showing up in his home lakes, Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn.

“At one time we had grass as deep as 35-37 feet deep, some of the prettiest stuff you have ever seen,” Martin said. “But just about everybody cussed it back then, especially on Toledo Bend.
